The Role-Playing Aspect of Turnabout

Turnabout is an original game that borrows aspects from some of the best board games that I have enjoyed. Turnabout’s design brings audiences something fresh and exciting. This is for sure!

One of the things I love most about Turnabout is the unique experience players get each time they have a round.  Every outcome will vary and surprise everyone wildly, myself included. This has everything to do with the player colours and the special abilities each one possesses.

I consider this feature to be a role-playing element in Turnabout with enormous potential as the game goes on. Your chosen piece is allowed to do things no one else can do. To have things no one else is given. Some get starting bonuses and others have abilities. Anytime they land on a square of their own colour, it’s always their lucky day. I have my own favourites but not because they help me to win as much as I like to see what happens next in Turnabout.

Here are the special abilities of each piece:

The Banker: Green starts the game with three times the coins as all their opponents. They also collect three coins instead of one each time it lands on the green square.

The Shopkeeper: Yellow can hop over traps and barricades as if they weren’t there. Each time they land on the yellow square, they get a free trap from the shop.

The Speedster: Blue starts with one less post to have to grab. It also can teleport from one blue square to another whenever it lands on one.

The Protected: Purple is immune to all negative Chance cards. Furthermore, every time it lands on the purple square, it can choose what colour it wants that square to be.

The Warden: Red can always just walk right out of the Pokey anytime they are sent there.  No need to stay and try to roll red to get out.  Also, immune to punishment when it lands on a Red square.

The Card Reader: Orange is able to pick up two chance cards each time it lands on the orange square. It can also put cards they don’t want back on the top of the pile for the next player to pick up.

As each game plays out, some abilities will prove more advantageous to have the power to pull off some great miracles. At a later round of play, other piece abilities will gain the advantage.

Pull up a chair and play with friends, family or total strangers. It won’t matter, because you’ll be so immersed in the crazy dynamic of each other’s choices, you’ll be thoroughly engaged… and entertained!

Turnabout is now available for sale at Sidequest Loot with free delivery in Brantford and the ability to ship anywhere else in Canada.  We also like to share the Turnabout experience on our Youtube channel and a growing community on Facebook.

We would love to share your Sidequest Story! If you have started a business or side hustle, if you're thinking of doing it or if you have no idea whatsoever of what you want to do, we would love to share your story.  We find that when the buyer knows you better, they are more likely to buy.  We don't mind if you mix in some advertisement, sales pitch (ugh!) or simply supportive thoughts for other Sidequesters going through the same thing.

Email: mysidequest@sidequester.ca and let us know what you want to do!  There is no charge for posting but we will give a final editorial review and might provide some suggestions.  You will be provided with a final draft before we publish.  All submissions will become the property of Sidequest Loot but will not be used without your consent.  We like to provide an author name but can limit this to first name or name of your business, if you wish.
