The Sidequest Loot Philosophy: FAFO
If you're expecting an intimidating rant about how no one should mess with us or that we will avenge ourselves upon evildoers or that LOWBALLERS SHOULD BEWARE (huh, three equivalent terms, how 'bout that), this post is going to greatly disappoint you.
We have already shared a couple guest Sidequest Tales and intend to share many more. Thus far, there are at least two commonalities in our contributors to this blog: they each took a leap of faith and I can guarantee that none of them followed a guidebook word-for-word. There's no such thing. If the idea became reality then the methods that they used worked. Successful? That's an eternally moving goalpost.
Sidequest Loot is fully involved in a FAFO mentality. We are prepared to try new ideas, new approaches and new concepts to move ourselves forward and grow. There are a large number of "tried and true" strategies in our playbook but we are also not afraid to incorporate a bit of anarchy into the game. "Dumb" and "Idea" cannot possibly be included in the same sentence, as far as we're concerned. What if it flops? So what?
Some of the elements you have seen already. We appreciate different concepts and we are absolute fans of anyone who has put themselves into this entrepreneurial game, regardless of the product. We wish we could be shameless imitators but would rather be weird than copycats.
I created a small Facebook vanity page years ago called "What's In A Tequila Rose and Other Tales from the Barside". It never made a penny from our low-triple-figure following and aside from being a creative outlet for my writing, I can't really say that it accomplished anything of note. It did however train me to contribute my writings regularly and always be on the search of bar-related memes and jokes to share. Silence is death on social media but variety is always required to keep a fanbase entertained.
Connections are key. We have maintained our policy that if someone Follows our platform, we will Follow theirs. I often connect and simply hope that they will reciprocate. The attempts at collaboration will find some connections - and in most cases, I just connect with the thought that there just might be some kind of greater mash-up collaboration in the future. We are always trying to set the stage for that fun (Fun Around and Find Out?).
There's no method to this madness, it is just a hoarders mentality of networking. Don't be so cynical. All of our connections are shout-outs and algorithm boosters that are shows of support. Our connection to them helps them connect further in the digital world and vice versa. Your connections to them (and don't forget about us!) do the same thing with the click of a button.
We can't possibly always have strings attached. Except one...
Not to piss in the cornflakes but we are here to sell stuff. Right now, it's mostly stuff. There are seeds being sown for Services, amongst other things. All of the Social Media efforts help to get you to know us better. We don't have any doubts about our ability to provide exceptional client service and we are highly confident in our ability to source goods that can be sold. If we have made a big bet, it's that by sharing these Tales of the Sidequest Inn you will come to know and trust those whose businesses & products we present for your consideration of purchase.
And if you mess with any of us, you and your descendants and your dog and your dog's toys and those that sold you the dog's toys* will come to regret it.
*No dogs, dog toys or vendors of dog toys anything to fear. It was a joke. Except for the you and your descendants part.
We would love to share your Sidequest Story! If you have started a business or side hustle, if you're thinking of doing it or if you have no idea whatsoever of what you want to do, we would love to share your story. We find that when the buyer knows you better, they are more likely to buy. We don't mind if you mix in some advertisement, sales pitch (ugh!) or simply supportive thoughts for other Sidequesters going through the same thing.
Email: mysidequest@sidequester.ca and let us know what you want to do! There is no charge for posting but we will give a final editorial review and might provide some suggestions. You will be provided with a final draft before we publish. All submissions will become the property of Sidequest Loot but will not be used without your consent. We like to provide an author name but can limit this to first name or name of your business, if you wish.
